Jamaica's female middle distance runner, Adelle Tracey, says it is important to have a strong showing in the middle distance events at the 2025 World Athletics Championships. And for her, the hope is to inspire the next generation to develop the country's depth.

"It is something that I'm really passionate about. It's really important for us to see examples," Tracey said upon her arrival at the Jamaican team camp in Tokyo.

Tracey competes in both the women's 800m and 1500m events, a demanding schedule for the experienced athlete.

Despite the workload, Tracey said she is approaching the championships in good spirits, having seen signs of progress for the future of Jamaica's middle distance programme.

However, she said there is still some way to go before the island can become a powerhouse in the global field.

"I'm going to go out there and give it my all as I always do. That's something that I pride myself on, to really leave it all out there and I hope that I can do that for Jamaica," she said.

"Competing in the middle distance events, I hope for generations to come, there will be more athletes and more depth in those fields.

"We're seeing it in the 800m already; we have three women in that event. I'd love to see that over the 1500m and up."

LONE COMPETITOR

Tracey will be Jamaica's lone competitor in the 1500m, but will be joined by teammates Natoya Goule-Toppin and Kelly-Ann Beckford in the 800m.

She is excited ahead of her third World Championships in Jamaican colours, as the athlete had previously represented Great Britain before making a switch of allegiance in 2022.

Born in the United States to a British mother and a Jamaican father, Tracey said she has enjoyed the past three years with the Jamaican team and ready to take to the track once again.

"Mentally I'm feeling excited and I'm looking forward to another championships with the Jamaican team. [I] came off the flight pretty good, had a nice couple of days in Tottori training, just adjusting to the heat and the time difference, so I should be good by Saturday," she said.

"I've had an amazing experience with the Jamaican team. Honestly, it's been such a joy to be a part of such an iconic team."

The middle-distance runner said she is ready to take to the field against the best the world has to offer.

"I think if I go out there and leave it all out there and run my best race, then that will be a success for me. Whatever that means, I guess I'll find out," Tracey said.

"I'm excited. I haven't raced for a couple of weeks because we wanted to tick some boxes in training. It's been a long season so I feel like I'm in a really good position and my coach is always good at getting me to peak at the right time so I'm excited to see how that matches up on the field."
