For the third season in a row, defending champions Frazsiers Whip and Cavalier meet in the Jamaica Women's Premier League (JWPL) final this Saturday at Ashenheim Stadium, Jamaica College, set for 7 p.m.

In the opening game of the double-header, Arnett Gardens and Los Perfectos will take to the field at 4 p.m. to face each other in the third-place match.

Frazsiers Whip, led by head coach Courtney Dowdie, will look to add yet another title to their ever-growing repertoire as the defending champions enter the final with an unbeaten record throughout the competition.

They booked their spot in the final via a 7-1 thumping of Los Perfectos in the semi-finals, and Dowdie is confident his charges can successfully defend their crown.

He said once the team is able to maintain their form and play their usual free-flowing football, they will walk away as champions.

"The plan has always been to just play our game. Nothing has changed. It's always been to play our game," he explained.

"That's very important for us not to try and play like the other team. That's all I ask of the girls and once we play our game, I believe we can do good things."

However, they will be without a few key faces, chief among them being senior Jamaican international Shaniel Buckley.

Buckley, who played a key role in Frazsiers Whip's attack throughout the season, has since returned to Daytona State College in the United States to continue her scholarship.

While missing her presence, Dowdie said he is confident in the players who can come off the bench and contribute to their title charge.

"If you look at it, we have players like Danishca Rattray coming off the bench; and she came on for about 25 minutes and she did well, so I'm pleased," he said.

"Buckley is an impossible player to replace, but we have players that I think can step up to the plate and deliver."

STERN OPPOSITION

His opposite number, Everdean Scarlett of Cavalier, is a man chasing glory against a stern opposition.

With Cavalier falling just short in the last two seasons, Scarlett is hoping that the third time will be the charm.

"We know that Frazsiers Whip is the team that we'll meet in the final, and we know they are a pretty tough team," he said. "But at the end of the day, we just have to do what we have to do to get over the hump."

With just 90 minutes separating them from triumph or heartbreak, Scarlett said the goal will be to challenge Frazsiers Whip on all accounts.

"Frazsiers Whip are the favourite, but we know what we have to do to stop them from playing," he said.

"We have to try and stay behind the ball, and not to concede early, to keep ourselves in the game. I think going into the final, we stand a pretty good chance against them."
