Alleged chain grabber remanded in custody
A convicted thief was remanded in custody when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court yesterday.
Shawn Dacosta pleaded not guilty to larceny from the person. Senior Parish Judge Lori-Ann Cole-Montague heard that the complainant, a 51-year-old woman, was in the market district in downtown Kingston when she felt someone grabbed her in the back of her neck and pull her gold necklace from her. When she looked around and saw the accused, Dacosta reportedly raised his hands as if he wanted to hit her.
It is reported that the complainant told her husband about the incident, who told her to sit in the car and not to move. The complainant's husband and son left her and the accused was later held. The complainant later saw her necklace at the police station. The court heard that the accused has a previous conviction of robbery with aggravation. A fingerprint order was made. Dacosta is to return to court on January 18.
