Social media sensation Reginald 'Bawdacat' Brumley is known as a joker, but when he spoke about COVID-19, there was absolutely nothing to smile about.

The comedian, who is known for his 'siteman jokes', urged Jamaicans to take all the necessary precautions to protect themselves and loved ones from contracting the deadly coronavirus that has already claimed thousands of lives, including three locally.

"We need to listen and stay in as much as possible," he said.

According to Bawdacat, he has been taking steps to boost his immune system, using a very inexpensive method.

"Mi drink a lot of bush tea. Mi drink up mi bissy, leaf of life, Joseph coat, fever grass, and mi drink a next one name fence snake ... mi drink up garlic and ginger too," he said.

He also gave special directions on how to prepare the teas.

"When you a draw dem, don't draw nuh even number. So mix up like three, five or seven, which is bare odd number, and drink dem up and make you body strong," he said.

Currently, dozens of persons have been tested positive for COVID-19 in Jamaica. Earlier this week, Prime Minister Andrew Holness said an estimated 5,100 people who came into the island between March 18 and 23 cannot be located.

Self-quarantine for 14 days

Some of the persons, despite being required to self-quarantine for 14 days, are reportedly interacting with the general population, thus raising the possibility that if infected, they could be transmitting the virus.

Reflecting on the ordeal, Bawdacat re-emphasised that the disease is not one to be played with.

"A lot of Jamaicans take it serious but still have some who don't care because dem just tell dem self it can't happen to dem, suh dem hard ears. Mi always tell dem it is a disease and yuh have to caution yuhself so dat dis disease don't take set pon you bone. It nuh must kill mi but it may kill yu because we hear about all the life it take," he said.

But Bawdacat wants one question answered.

"A whole lotta money it (COVID-19) stop mi from have. Who is going to give me back all that money that it stop mi from make because mi can't do nuh form a work now? So if mi have money now, it nah go done? Dem a go say is not dem make corona, but is not me make it either," he said.
